Lahinch, Clare

Listen to Nature.

I have a feeling we should have looked at Lahinch today. It’s raining but the wind has dropped. Instead we are driving north towards Easkey.

Torn, I am feeling on the low side. I even made Caroline cry earlier. Sorry

Easkey, Sligo

Easkey is quiet. I felt a tinge of excitement as we drew near. We approached the castle from the coast westward. Parking is easy, access is easy. The left was working and a few people were out. I should have gone in but I felt a little unsure. Hopefully the morning will be o.k.

Lahinch, Clare

They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes. I feared this for Lahinch.

It’s amazing how imagery can form an idealized notion of a place. As de Botton posits there is no point being demoralized because it is simply different. What reinforces any difference is the strong on-shore wind and the choppy sea. And so we move on. North

Crab Island, Doolin, Clare

A respite in a campsite. It has been a week since we left last Sunday. Today is our first shower. Glorious

In the last week I surfed 3 days. It is the first day of a new week and again I have not surfed. I have surfed 3 out of 8 days and 1 of those didn’t really count.

Tomorrow we head for Easkey. The forecast is for big surf and strong winds, predominantly from the west of north. Not a good sign but at least we have had a shower.

Moving. Sometimes it feels good to be moving again, simply enjoying the pleasure of driving to a new place, listening to music with the sun shining.

Before I was talking about perfection and the Brandon Mountain, nestled within are a number of houses, settlements. Does this effect perfection, I don’t know? I guess it reinforces the sceptics view concerning who can describe what perfection is.

A few hours later and the feeling has changed. Tired from driving, stressed and moody from hunger and not being able to find the bay we are looking for. Also the guide book describes a beach-break that is not a beach-break. It is rock. And the waves are flat.

Farrihy Bay, Clare

A beautiful sunny evening in a beautiful isolated spot but as we walk across the boulder ridge that forms the beach, for Caroline she can only think of death. A contrasting thought to such a dreamy spot but then when you look.
